The absolute most critical thing to understand before purchasing is that the LP-EL is a dedicated FLASH battery, not a camera battery. While it looks incredibly similar to Canon's popular LP-E6 camera batteries, it is physically larger. It will not fit into any Canon camera body.

Secondly, please be aware of your specific charger situation. While the LP-EL charges using the standard Canon LC-E6 wall charger, Canon does not include the charger in the box when you purchase the Speedlite EL-5. If you do not already own an LC-E6 charger from a compatible Canon camera, you will absolutely need to purchase the charger separately to use this battery. (Note: The Speedlite EL-1 does include the charger).
