Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3
Reliable, Vibration-Free Shutter Control for Professional EOS Cameras
When shooting long-exposure landscapes, capturing starry night skies, or focusing on microscopic macro subjects, even the slightest physical touch of your finger against the camera's shutter button can introduce micro-vibrations that ruin an otherwise tack-sharp image. The Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3 is the essential, time-tested solution to this problem. By allowing you to trigger your camera from an 80cm (2.6-foot) cable, it completely isolates the camera body from your hands, ensuring absolute optical perfection during delicate shoots.
Built for Canon’s professional and high-end enthusiast camera bodies, this wired remote perfectly replicates all the functions of your camera’s built-in shutter button. Designed to be incredibly robust and entirely battery-free, it is a mandatory staple in the camera bags of professional landscape photographers, studio shooters, and astrophotographers who demand uncompromising stability.
Why You'll Love This Remote
-
Eliminate Camera Shake: By moving the physical act of pressing the shutter away from the camera body, you completely eliminate the "camera shake" that softens images during long exposures or high-magnification macro photography.
-
Flawless Half-Press Functionality: Just like the shutter button on your camera, the RS-80N3 features a highly tactile, two-stage button. Pressing it halfway down engages the camera's autofocus and exposure metering systems, while pressing it fully captures the image.
-
Dedicated Bulb Lock: For exposures lasting longer than 30 seconds (like capturing star trails or fireworks), you don't need to hold the button down with your thumb. The remote features a sliding locking mechanism. Simply press the button and slide it forward to lock the shutter open in "Bulb" mode, then slide it back to end the exposure.
-
Secure N3 Connection: Unlike standard 2.5mm headphone-style jacks that can easily be yanked out, the RS-80N3 utilizes Canon's proprietary 3-pin N3 connection. The metal collar physically grips and locks onto the camera's remote port, ensuring it will never accidentally detach during a critical shoot.
-
Battery-Free Reliability: Because it is a wired mechanical switch that draws the minimal power it needs directly from the camera body, it never requires batteries. You can leave it in your camera bag for years and trust that it will work perfectly the moment you plug it in.

Things to Note
The absolute most important thing to check before purchasing this remote is your camera's specific remote port connection. This RS-80N3 uses Canon's professional N3 connection (a silver, circular 3-pin plug). It will not fit cameras that use the consumer E3 connection (which looks like a standard 2.5mm headphone jack). If you shoot with a camera like the EOS R6 Mark II, R7, R8, R50, or any Rebel-series DSLR, you must purchase the Canon RS-60E3 remote instead, or buy the separate RA-E3 adapter.
Secondly, while this remote allows you to lock the shutter open for long exposures, it does not feature a built-in LCD timer or intervalometer. You must manually time your long exposures using a watch or your phone. If you want a remote that allows you to automatically program specific time intervals for time-lapses (e.g., "take one photo every 10 seconds for an hour"), you will need to upgrade to the significantly more expensive Canon TC-80N3 Timer Remote Controller.
Finally, the cable length is fixed at 2.6 feet (80 cm). This is generally the perfect length for operating a camera mounted on a standard tripod, but if you have your camera mounted high on a boom arm or need to trigger it from across the room, you will want to look into a wireless remote solution (like the Canon BR-E1) or purchase an N3 extension cable.
