The most important physical quirk of macro photography to understand is "effective aperture" light loss. While this is an f/2.8 lens, as you focus closer and approach the 1:1 magnification limit, the physical extension of the lens elements means less light reaches the sensor. Your camera may display the aperture dropping to f/3.2, f/4, or f/4.5. This is normal physics for macro lenses, but it means you will likely need external flashes or LED ring lights when shooting extreme close-ups.

Secondly, unlike some massive, heavy telephoto macro lenses, the Z MC 105mm f/2.8 does not include, nor does it natively support, a rotating tripod collar. For most users, the lens is light enough (630g) to safely mount the camera body directly to a tripod.
