Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E III
Double Your Reach Without the Massive Weight of a Super-Telephoto
For wildlife, aviation, and sports photographers shooting on the classic Nikon F-mount DSLR system, getting closer to the action is the ultimate priority. The Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E III is a highly advanced optical accessory designed to instantly double the focal length of compatible Nikon telephoto lenses. By sitting between your camera body and your lens, it transforms a standard 70-200mm f/2.8 into a formidable 140-400mm f/5.6, or pushes a 300mm prime to a staggering 600mm powerhouse, all without the need to carry an entirely separate, heavy super-telephoto lens.
Unlike cheaper, third-party teleconverters that often severely degrade image quality, this genuine Nikon "Generation III" extender is engineered with uncompromised precision. It was the first teleconverter in the world to feature an aspherical lens element, ensuring that even when you double your magnification, your images retain the stunning edge-to-edge sharpness, contrast, and rapid autofocus performance expected of Nikon’s premium professional glass.
Why You'll Love This Teleconverter
-
Massive 2.0x Magnification: It instantly doubles your focal length, pulling the most distant, elusive subjects right into your frame. This is an incredibly cost-effective and portable way to achieve extreme super-telephoto reach without investing in a dedicated 600mm or 800mm prime lens.
-
Advanced Aspherical Optics: Constructed with 7 elements in 5 groups, this Mark III version includes a highly specialized aspherical element. This painstakingly controls coma and other chromatic aberrations, ensuring your images remain crisp, high-contrast, and color-accurate.
-
Flawless Camera Communication: The smart-connect design seamlessly translates all electronic data between the lens and the camera body. Metering, fast autofocus tracking, VR (Vibration Reduction), and EXIF data transmission all function flawlessly through the teleconverter.
-
Maintains Minimum Focus Distance: While it doubles your magnification, it does not change the minimum focusing distance of your attached lens. This allows you to capture stunning, tightly cropped "macro-style" detail shots from a comfortable working distance.
-
Professional Durability: Built to match the rigorous standards of Nikon's high-end professional telephoto lenses, the TC-20E III features robust dust and moisture-resistant weather sealing, allowing you to shoot confidently in unpredictable outdoor environments.

Things to Note
The absolute most critical factor before purchasing this extender is strict lens compatibility. Because the front elements of the teleconverter protrude significantly forward, it will physically only fit into the back of specific Nikon AF-S and AF-I telephoto lenses that have a recessed rear element (such as the AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR or the AF-S 300mm f/4E PF ED VR). It will not fit standard walkaround zooms (like a 24-70mm) or wide-angle lenses. Always consult Nikon's official compatibility chart for your specific lens before ordering.
Secondly, please remember the fundamental rule of a 2.0x teleconverter: you will lose exactly two stops of light. For example, an f/2.8 lens will behave like an f/5.6 lens, and an f/4 lens will behave like an f/8 lens. You will need to shoot in bright daylight or rely heavily on your camera's high-ISO capabilities to keep your shutter speeds fast enough to freeze action.
Furthermore, because of this light loss, autofocus performance may be affected on older DSLRs. If you mount this converter to an f/5.6 lens (creating an effective f/11 aperture), many older Nikon DSLRs will completely disable autofocus because the viewfinder image is too dark for the AF sensor to function, forcing you to rely entirely on manual focus.
