Because the front elements of the teleconverter protrude significantly forward, it will physically only fit into the back of specific Nikon AF-S and AF-I telephoto lenses that have a recessed rear element (such as the AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR or the AF-S 300mm f/4E PF ED VR).
