To achieve its incredibly accessible price point, the Z5 makes a few specific compromises compared to the higher-end Nikon Z6. First, the 24.3MP sensor is a standard CMOS chip, not a Backside-Illuminated (BSI) sensor. While it performs beautifully in good light, it will exhibit slightly more digital noise when pushed to extreme high ISOs in very dark environments compared to the Z6.

Secondly, the camera prioritizes deliberate photography over high-speed action. The continuous burst rate maxes out at a modest 4.5 frames per second. While perfectly adequate for portraits, landscapes, and everyday events, it is not the ideal camera for tracking erratic wildlife or sprinting athletes.

Third, the Z5 features a highly stripped-down video capability. While it does shoot 4K video, it applies a massive 1.7x crop to the sensor. This means your wide-angle lenses will act like tight telephoto lenses when shooting in 4K. If you are a dedicated videographer or vlogger, the Z5 is not the ideal tool; it is designed primarily as a still-photography camera.

Finally, while it shares the same high-resolution viewfinder as the Z6, the rear tilting LCD screen is a lower-resolution 1.04m-dot panel, and the camera lacks the top-plate digital information display found on higher-tier models.
