Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary (Nikon Z Mount)
The Ultra-Fast, Wide-Angle Essential for DX Creators
When you need a wide perspective that doesn't compromise on low-light performance, the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary is in a class of its own. Engineered specifically for APS-C format mirrorless cameras, this version brings Sigma's legendary optical formula to the Nikon Z mount (perfect for bodies like the Z30, Z50, and Zfc).
Because of the 1.5x crop factor of Nikon's DX sensors, this 16mm lens provides a 24mm full-frame equivalent field of view. This is widely considered the "gold standard" focal length for environmental portraits, sweeping landscapes, astrophotography, and handheld vlogging. Combining an incredibly bright f/1.4 maximum aperture with a stepping motor for whisper-quiet video autofocus, it is a must-have prime lens for hybrid creators.
Why You'll Love This Lens
-
Low-Light Monster: The massive f/1.4 aperture allows an incredible amount of light to hit the sensor. This means you can keep your ISO low for clean, noise-free images when shooting indoors, at night, or capturing the Milky Way.
-
Beautiful Subject Separation: Wide-angle lenses naturally have deep depth of field, making it hard to blur the background. However, at f/1.4, this lens allows you to get close to your subject and melt the background away into smooth, creamy bokeh.
-
The Vlogging Sweet Spot: The 24mm equivalent field of view is wide enough to hold the camera at arm's length and comfortably fit your head, shoulders, and background into the frame without aggressive edge distortion.
-
Whisper-Quiet Autofocus: Video shooters will appreciate the stepping motor (STM), which delivers fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus tracking that won't be picked up by your on-camera microphone.
-
Weather-Sealed Mount: Despite being part of Sigma's lightweight "Contemporary" line, it features a durable brass bayonet mount with a special rubber sealing ring to protect your camera sensor from dust and light moisture.

Things to Note
It is crucial to understand that this is a DC lens, meaning it is designed for APS-C (DX) format sensors. If you mount this lens onto a full-frame Nikon Z camera (like the Z6, Z7, or Z8), the camera will automatically detect it and enter "DX Crop Mode." While it will work perfectly, you will not be utilizing the full resolution of your full-frame sensor.
Additionally, this lens does not feature built-in optical image stabilization (OS). If you are shooting handheld video on a camera body that lacks In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS)—such as the Nikon Z30 or Z50—you will need to rely on the camera's electronic stabilization (which applies a slight crop) or use a gimbal for perfectly smooth walking footage.
