To achieve its incredibly compact size and accessible price point, the lens makes a few notable physical compromises. First, the 28mm wide end is noticeably less expansive than a standard 24mm lens. If you frequently shoot sprawling landscapes or cramped real estate interiors, you may find the 28mm starting point slightly restrictive.
Secondly, remember the retractable barrel mechanism. You cannot shoot while the lens is collapsed for storage. Before taking a photo, you must physically rotate the zoom ring to extend the front barrel to the 28mm working position.
Third, optical purists should be aware that this lens relies on digital lens corrections. If you view the uncorrected RAW files in software that doesn't automatically apply a lens profile, you will notice barrel distortion and heavy vignetting (dark corners). The camera and modern editing software correct this instantly and automatically, but it is a physical compromise made to keep the lens small.
