Things to Note
Because the EOS R5 pushes so much data, it requires CFexpress Type B memory cards to unlock its highest-end video features. While you can safely shoot standard photos and basic 4K video to the cheaper SD card slot, capturing 8K RAW, 8K ALL-I, or 4K at 120fps requires the blistering write speeds of a CFexpress Type B card.
Secondly, you must be prepared for the massive file sizes. A single 45MP RAW photo can exceed 45-50 MB, and 8K video will fill up a 512GB memory card in a matter of minutes. You will need a robust, modern computer and plenty of high-capacity hard drives to store and seamlessly edit the media this camera produces.
The staggering amount of data generated by the 45-megapixel sensor running at 8K resolutions generates significant internal heat. While subsequent firmware updates have vastly improved its thermal management since launch, there are still recording time limits when shooting 8K or oversampled 4K HQ video to prevent overheating.
Finally, while the included 24-105mm lens is incredibly versatile, it relies on an f/4 maximum aperture. While perfectly adequate for daytime travel, landscapes, and well-lit studio work, it lets in exactly half as much light as a faster f/2.8 professional lens. This means it is not the ideal lens for pitch-black indoor environments (like dimly lit wedding receptions) unless you are willing to push the camera's ISO higher to compensate.
