Canon ST-E10 Speedlite Transmitter
The Ultra-Compact, Battery-Free Wireless Lighting Commander
For portrait, wedding, and studio photographers who rely on complex off-camera flash setups, triggering multiple lights has traditionally required bulky transmitters powered by endless sets of AA batteries. The Canon ST-E10 Speedlite Transmitter completely revolutionizes wireless lighting control. By taking full advantage of Canon’s advanced 21-pin digital Multi-Function Shoe, this transmitter strips away the bulk, the batteries, and the LCD screen, delivering professional-grade radio control in a package that weighs a mere 1.7 ounces.
Despite its incredibly small footprint, the ST-E10 sacrifices none of the power of its larger predecessors. Utilizing Canon’s robust 2.4 GHz Radio Transmission (RT) system, it allows you to confidently control up to 15 compatible Speedlites across 5 independent groups from nearly 100 feet away, even around corners or through softboxes. It seamlessly integrates your lighting workflow directly into the camera's touchscreen, ensuring your camera rig remains perfectly balanced and featherlight.
Why You'll Love This Transmitter
-
Completely Battery-Free: You will never again miss a crucial shot because the batteries in your flash trigger died. The ST-E10 draws the minimal power it needs directly from the camera body via the digital hot shoe, ensuring it is always ready to fire.
-
Ultra-Compact & Featherlight: Weighing just 1.7 oz (48g), it is remarkably small. It adds virtually zero weight to the top of your camera, making it incredibly comfortable for long, 12-hour wedding days and keeping your camera perfectly balanced on a tripod or gimbal.
-
Robust Radio Transmission (RT): Unlike older optical systems that require direct line-of-sight, the 2.4 GHz radio system can trigger flashes up to 98.4 feet (30 meters) away, even if the flash is placed behind a wall, hidden inside a softbox, or stationed outdoors in bright sunlight.
-
Seamless Camera Integration: Because it lacks a physical LCD screen, the ST-E10 is controlled entirely through your camera's high-resolution display. A single, dedicated "Menu" button on the back of the transmitter instantly pulls up the flash control menu on your camera screen, allowing for fast, intuitive, touch-based adjustments.
-
Extensive Multi-Flash Control: You can easily manage complex lighting scenarios. It allows you to trigger and independently control the power ratios of up to 15 Canon RT-compatible Speedlites, divided across 5 different groups.
-
Professional Weather Sealing: Built for the demands of working professionals, the transmitter features the same level of dust and moisture resistance as Canon's high-end camera bodies, allowing you to shoot outdoor portraits confidently in unpredictable weather.

Things to Note
The absolute most critical factor before purchasing the ST-E10 is its exclusive camera compatibility. This transmitter requires the new 21-pin digital Multi-Function Shoe to operate. It is fully compatible with modern bodies like the EOS R3, R5 Mark II, R1, R6 Mark II, R8, R7, and R50. It will not work on older cameras with standard 5-pin hot shoes (like the original EOS R5, R6, R, RP, or any DSLR), and there is no adapter that can attach it to a legacy shoe. If you have an older camera, you must buy the larger, battery-powered Canon ST-E3-RT (V2).
Secondly, because the transmitter features an ultra-minimalist design without its own LCD screen, you must rely entirely on the camera's rear display or viewfinder to change flash settings. While the menu integration is excellent, photographers who are deeply accustomed to quickly glancing down at a physical screen on their transmitter may experience a slight learning curve.
Finally, remember that this is an RT (Radio Transmission) system only. It is designed to trigger Canon flashes with built-in radio receivers (like the Speedlite EL-1, EL-5, 600EX-RT, and 430EX III-RT). It will not optically trigger older, non-RT flashes (like the 580EX II or 430EX II) unless you attach a separate radio receiver to those legacy flashes.
