The absolute most critical factor before purchasing this cap is verifying your lens mount system. This cap is designed exclusively for classic Canon DSLR lenses (the EF and EF-S mounts). It will not fit modern Canon mirrorless lenses. If you shoot with the modern EOS R system, you need the Canon Lens Dust Cap RF. If you shoot with the older EOS M mirrorless system, you need the Canon Lens Dust Cap EB.
Secondly, to properly attach this cap to your lens, you must align the index marks. Look for the small, embossed line or dot on the outer rim of the plastic cap. This mark must be aligned with the red dot (on EF lenses) or the white square (on EF-S lenses) on the lens mount before twisting it clockwise to lock it in place. If it is not aligned properly, it will not seat correctly and could jam.
