The Nikon NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II is a high-performance telephoto zoom lens designed for the Nikon Z-mount mirrorless system. Released in early 2026, it is approximately 26% lighter than its predecessor and features an advanced Silky Swift Voice Coil Motor (SSVCM) for significantly faster and quieter autofocus.

Key Features and Performance:
- Unprecedented Lightweight Design: Weighing just 998g (2.2 lbs) without the tripod foot, it is considered the lightest lens in its class. This reduction in weight, achieved through a refined optical formula with fewer elements (18 vs. 21), makes it easier to handle during long shooting days or on gimbals.
- Advanced Autofocus: The new Silky Swift VCM drive system is 3.5x faster and 17.5x more precise than the previous generation, offering vastly improved focus tracking, especially while zooming.
- Superior Image Stabilization: Features built-in optical Vibration Reduction (VR) providing up to 6 stops of compensation when used with compatible cameras like the Z6III.
- Enhanced Optics and Bokeh: Employs high-end Meso Amorphous and ARNEO coatings for superior anti-reflection performance and flare resistance. The diaphragm now includes 11 rounded blades for smoother, more natural background bokeh.
- Close-Focus Capability: Offers a class-leading minimum focus distance of just 15 inches (0.38 m) at the 70mm position, allowing for dramatic detail shots and a maximum magnification of 0.3x. 

Build and Professional Controls:
- Professional Durability: The lens features extensive weather sealing and a hydrophobic fluorine coating on the front element to repel dust, moisture, and smudges.
- Customizable Ergonomics: Includes two assignable L-Fn buttons and a customizable control ring with a new click/clickless switch for tactile or silent operation.
- Redesigned Tripod Foot: The new tripod foot is Arca-Swiss compatible, allowing it to be directly mounted to many professional tripod heads without additional plates.
- Video Optimization: Designed to virtually eliminate focus breathing, making it an ideal choice for high-end cinematography and hybrid shooters.
