Things to Note
To achieve a 3000mm equivalent zoom without making the camera the size of a small car, Nikon had to use a small 1/2.3-inch sensor (roughly the same size as the sensor in many older smartphones). Because of this small sensor and the relatively slow f/8 maximum aperture at the telephoto end, the P1100 struggles in low-light situations. It needs abundant sunlight to keep shutter speeds fast enough to freeze motion at extreme zoom lengths.
Furthermore, this is a large and surprisingly heavy bridge camera. At over 3 pounds and with a massive lens barrel extending from the front, it handles more like a medium-format camera or a large DSLR than a traditional "point-and-shoot." A sturdy tripod is highly recommended for shooting at or near the 3000mm limit. We have many in stock!
