Nikon Z50II Mirrorless Digital Camera with 16-50mm and 50-250mm Lenses

The Ultimate "Do-Everything" Creator Kit

If you are looking to graduate from smartphone photography and want a complete, ready-to-shoot system that covers every conceivable focal length right out of the box, the Nikon Z50II paired with the 16-50mm and 50-250mm lenses is the definitive starter kit. Nikon didn't just update their most popular entry-level APS-C camera; they supercharged it. By packing the exact same EXPEED 7 processing engine found in the flagship Z8 and Z9 into a highly compact body, the Z50II delivers terrifyingly accurate autofocus, blistering burst speeds, and gorgeous 10-bit video capabilities.

By bundling both the everyday 16-50mm zoom and the far-reaching 50-250mm telephoto, you instantly possess the optical versatility to shoot sweeping wide-angle landscapes, intimate street portraits, and distant, frame-filling wildlife. It is an incredibly powerful, deeply comprehensive creator kit that fits comfortably into a small travel bag.

Why You'll Love This Kit

  • Complete Optical Versatility: You are ready for anything. The compact 16-50mm lens is perfect for handheld vlogs, group photos, and street scenes. When the action moves further away, simply swap to the 50-250mm telephoto lens to capture birds, field sports, or tight, flattering portraits from a distance.

  • Dedicated Picture Control Button: Finding your aesthetic has never been easier. The Z50II features a brand-new dedicated "Picture Control" button that gives you instant access to 31 built-in color presets. You can even download bespoke "Imaging Recipes" directly from the Nikon Imaging Cloud to preview highly stylized, cinematic looks in real time before you ever press the shutter.

  • Flagship-Level Autofocus: The EXPEED 7 processor unlocks Nikon's incredible 3D Tracking and subject recognition. The camera automatically detects and tenaciously tracks the eyes, faces, and bodies of people, dogs, cats, birds, airplanes, bicycles, trains, and cars.

  • Product Review Mode: Tailor-made for solo YouTube creators, the Z50II features a dedicated product showcase mode. The camera will instantly and perfectly shift focus from your face to an object you hold up to the lens, and then snap right back to your eyes when you lower the product.

  • Next-Level Video & Streaming: Capture uncropped 4K UHD video at 30p, or high-speed 1080p at 120p for silky slow motion. It also records in robust 10-bit color (N-Log and HLG) for advanced color grading. Furthermore, built-in UVC/UAC support means you can plug the camera directly into your computer to use it as a high-end webcam without any extra capture cards.

  • Brilliant 1000-Nit Viewfinder: The 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) is now twice as bright as its predecessor, pushing an impressive 1000 nits. This makes composing shots and reviewing images in glaring, direct midday sunlight absolutely effortless.

  • Blistering 30 fps & Pre-Capture: Never miss a fleeting moment again. The Z50II can shoot up to 30 frames per second using the electronic shutter. Crucially, it features Pre-Release Capture, which buffers images up to one second before you fully depress the shutter button, saving the decisive split-second you might have otherwise missed.

Things to Note

To keep the camera compact and affordable, the Z50II body does not feature mechanical In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS). Fortunately, both included lenses provide excellent optical Vibration Reduction (VR). However, if you eventually mount an unstabilized prime lens to the camera, you will need to rely on the camera's Digital IS (which slightly crops your video) or use faster shutter speeds to prevent motion blur.

Secondly, while the Z50II does shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second, it does so by applying an additional 1.5x crop to the sensor. This means your lenses will appear significantly more "zoomed in" when shooting at 60p compared to 24p or 30p.

Regarding the kit lenses, both the 16-50mm and the 50-250mm feature variable, relatively dark maximum apertures. In dark indoor environments or at dusk, they will let in significantly less light than a fast prime lens, forcing the camera to raise its ISO. They also won't produce the extreme, creamy background blur of a dedicated portrait lens.

Finally, the camera utilizes the relatively small EN-EL25a battery. It is rated for roughly 250 shots per charge. If you plan to shoot 4K video, utilize the pre-capture burst features, or vlog all day, you will absolutely need to purchase and carry spare batteries.
