To unlock the absolute maximum performance of the R5 Mark II—specifically the fastest continuous burst speeds, 8K video, and pre-capture features—you must use the new LP-E6P battery. While older LP-E6NH batteries will turn the camera on, they will severely limit its capabilities.

Furthermore, 8K RAW video generates a massive amount of heat. While Canon has improved the passive cooling over the original R5 (adding vents behind the screen), if you plan on shooting long, continuous takes of high-framerate 8K or 4K video, you may need to invest in the optional CF-R20EP cooling fan grip to prevent the camera from overheating and shutting down. Finally, like all high-resolution, high-speed cameras, you will need to invest in very fast CFexpress Type B cards to handle the massive data throughput.
