Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 Lens
The Ultra-Compact, Featherlight Full-Frame Travel Zoom
For years, carrying a full-frame camera meant accepting a heavy, bulky kit. The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 completely rewrites that narrative. Serving as the smallest and lightest full-frame zoom lens in the entire Nikon Z lineup, it transforms your mirrorless camera into a remarkably stealthy, grab-and-go setup that you will never hesitate to toss into a small daypack or purse.
Whether you are navigating narrow European cobblestone streets, capturing sweeping wide-angle landscapes, or snapping everyday lifestyle portraits, this lens delivers the renowned optical excellence of the Z system without the back-breaking fatigue. By utilizing an innovative button-less retractable barrel, it packs an incredibly versatile everyday focal range into a footprint that feels more like a tiny pancake prime lens than a standard zoom.
Why You'll Love This Lens
-
Miraculously Compact & Lightweight: Weighing a mere 6.9 ounces (195g) and measuring exactly 2 inches long when collapsed, this lens completely eliminates neck and shoulder strain. It is the absolute perfect companion for lightweight full-frame bodies like the Nikon Z5, Zf, or Z6 series.
-
Button-Less Retractable Design: When you are done shooting, simply twist the zoom ring past the 24mm mark to retract the lens for storage. Unlike older Nikon retractable lenses, there is no physical button to push and hold; the twist mechanism is smooth, fast, and intuitive.
-
The Essential Everyday Range: The 24mm wide end is expansive enough to capture dramatic architecture and sprawling landscapes, while the 50mm end provides a natural, undistorted "human eye" perspective that is universally flattering for street photography and portraits.
-
Silent, Smooth Autofocus: Driven by a fast stepping motor (STM), the autofocus is highly accurate and completely whisper-quiet. This is critical for preventing your camera's internal microphone from picking up distracting mechanical clicking noises during video recording or vlogging.
-
Customizable Control Ring: The lens features a sleek, knurled control ring that can be programmed through your camera's menu. You can set it for precise manual focusing, or assign it to silently adjust your aperture, ISO, or exposure compensation on the fly.
-
Travel-Ready Durability: Despite its incredibly small size and budget-friendly price point, Nikon included internal dust and drip-resistant weather sealing, giving you peace of mind when exploring unpredictable outdoor environments.

Things to Note
To achieve its title as Nikon's smallest and lightest full-frame zoom, the lens relies on a variable, relatively dark maximum aperture (f/4 to f/6.3). Because the lens drops to f/6.3 at the 50mm telephoto end, it lets in a relatively small amount of light. This means it will struggle in very dark indoor environments (forcing the camera to raise its ISO), and it will not produce the extreme, creamy background blur (bokeh) of a dedicated f/1.8 prime lens.
Secondly, to keep the overall footprint as tiny as possible, this lens does not feature built-in optical Vibration Reduction (VR). For handheld photography at slow shutter speeds or walking video footage, you will need to rely heavily on your camera body's In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS).
Third, please remember the retractable barrel mechanism. You cannot shoot while the lens is collapsed for storage. Before taking a photo, you must physically rotate the zoom ring to extend the front barrel to the 24mm working position.
Finally, to keep the weight down to a mere 6.9 ounces, the lens utilizes a plastic lens mount rather than metal, and the HB-98 petal-shaped lens hood is sold separately.
