Things to Note
The absolute most critical physical detail to understand before purchasing this battery as a spare is that it does NOT include the battery chamber cover. The EN-EL18d is just the raw battery cell. To lock it into the bottom of the Nikon Z9, you must unclip the BL-7 Battery Chamber Cover from your dead battery and attach it to this new one. If you want to keep covers permanently attached to all your spare batteries for faster swapping, you must purchase additional BL-7 covers separately.
Secondly, please be aware that Nikon does not include a wall charger when you purchase this battery on its own. It charges flawlessly using the dedicated Nikon MH-33 charger (which typically comes in the box with the Z9), or via in-camera USB-C charging.
Finally, while the Z9 is backwards compatible with older batteries (like the EN-EL18c, b, and a), in-camera USB-C charging is ONLY supported when using this newest EN-EL18d or the EN-EL18c. If you place an older 'a' or 'b' variant battery into the Z9, it will power the camera, but plugging a USB-C cable into the camera will not recharge the older battery.
