The absolute most critical factor to understand before purchasing this adapter is how it handles older autofocus lenses. This adapter does NOT have a built-in mechanical autofocus motor. If you own older "screw-drive" lenses (typically designated with "AF" or "AF-D" in the name, such as the classic AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D), the lens will mount perfectly and exposure metering will work, but you will be restricted to manual focus only. To achieve autofocus, your lens must have its own internal focus motor (designated by AF-S, AF-P, or AF-I).

Secondly, please be aware that this adapter does not support the use of physical aperture rings on older manual lenses. You must set the lens's aperture ring to its minimum (highest number) setting and control the aperture electronically via the camera dials.

Finally, if you frequently shoot with massive, heavy telephoto DSLR lenses (like a 400mm f/2.8 or 600mm f/4) and rely on the adapter itself to mount to a tripod rather than the lens's built-in collar, you may actually prefer the discontinued original FTZ adapter, which featured an integrated 1/4"-20 tripod foot.
