Nikon Z5 Mirrorless Digital Camera with NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 Lens Kit
The Essential, Ultra-Compact Gateway to Full-Frame Photography
For passionate hobbyists and rising creators looking to step up to the beautiful depth and low-light performance of a full-frame camera without sacrificing the portability of a crop-sensor system, the Nikon Z5 paired with the 24-50mm lens is an absolute revelation. Serving as the foundation of Nikon's acclaimed Z-series mirrorless ecosystem, the Z5 actively democratizes full-frame photography by delivering professional-tier build quality, dual card slots, and in-body stabilization at a highly accessible price point.
When bundled with the included NIKKOR Z 24-50mm kit lens—the smallest and lightest full-frame zoom in the entire Nikon Z lineup—this setup transforms into a remarkably stealthy, grab-and-go setup. The clever retractable lens perfectly balances on the Z5 body, making it the ultimate everyday companion for capturing sweeping wide-angle landscapes, vibrant street photography, and flattering lifestyle portraits while traveling light.
Why You'll Love This Kit
-
The Full-Frame Advantage: The 24.3-megapixel FX-format CMOS sensor delivers the classic, "three-dimensional" look that full-frame sensors are known for. It provides excellent dynamic range, brilliant color reproduction, and allows you to easily blur distracting backgrounds to isolate your subjects.
-
Ultra-Compact Retractable Lens: Weighing a mere 6.9 ounces (195g), the included 24-50mm lens completely eliminates neck and shoulder strain. When you are done shooting, simply twist the zoom ring to retract the lens into a tiny, "pancake-like" footprint for effortless storage in a small daypack.
-
Crucial 5-Axis Stabilization: Because the lightweight 24-50mm lens lacks built-in optical VR, the camera body handles the heavy lifting. The Z5 features advanced sensor-shift Vibration Reduction, providing up to 5 stops of shake correction. This ensures your handheld photos remain tack-sharp even when shooting in dark indoor environments at slow shutter speeds.
-
Dual SD Card Slots: A feature highly requested by event and wedding photographers, the Z5 includes two UHS-II compatible SD card slots. You can instantly configure the camera to record a backup of every photo you take to the second card, providing crucial peace of mind during once-in-a-lifetime events.
-
Flagship-Level Viewfinder: Nikon didn't cut corners on composition. The Z5 utilizes the exact same massive, 3.69m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) found in the higher-end Z6 and Z7. It provides a stunning, high-contrast, lag-free view of your subject, completely unhindered by glaring sunlight.
-
Advanced Eye-Detection AF: The 273-point hybrid autofocus system covers 90% of the frame. Crucially, it features advanced Eye-Detection AF that tenaciously tracks the eyes of humans, dogs, and cats, ensuring your portraits are perfectly sharp.

Things to Note
To achieve its incredibly compact size and accessible price point, the included 24-50mm lens utilizes a variable, relatively dark maximum aperture (f/4 to f/6.3). In dark indoor environments, the lens will let in significantly less light than a fast prime lens, forcing the camera to raise its ISO. Furthermore, while the camera performs beautifully in good light, the Z5 uses a standard CMOS chip (not a Backside-Illuminated BSI sensor like the Z6), so it will exhibit slightly more digital noise when pushed to extreme high ISOs.
Secondly, video creators must be aware of the Z5's massive 1.7x sensor crop when shooting in 4K. When you combine this severe crop with the 24-50mm lens, you completely lose your wide-angle perspective; the lens will behave more like a 40-85mm lens in 4K. If you are a dedicated videographer or vlogger looking for wide 4K shots, the Z5 is not the ideal tool.
Third, the camera prioritizes deliberate photography over high-speed action. The continuous burst rate maxes out at a modest 4.5 frames per second. While perfectly adequate for portraits and everyday events, it is not the ideal camera for tracking erratic wildlife or sprinting athletes.
Finally, please remember the retractable barrel mechanism of the kit lens. You cannot shoot while the lens is collapsed for storage. Before taking a photo, you must physically rotate the zoom ring to extend the front barrel to the 24mm working position.
