Nikon Z fc DX-Format Mirrorless Digital Camera (Body Only)

Classic Heritage Meets Modern Mirrorless Performance

For creators who appreciate the tactile joy and timeless aesthetics of analog film cameras but demand the speed, video quality, and connectivity of modern digital technology, the Nikon Z fc is a stunning achievement. Designed as a direct homage to the legendary Nikon FM2 film camera from 1982, the Z fc features precision-carved aluminum dials, a classic pentaprism-style viewfinder housing, and a textured leather-tone finish.

By purchasing the body only, you have the ultimate flexibility to pair it with any of Nikon's excellent Z-mount lenses, or use the FTZ II adapter to attach vintage manual-focus F-mount glass to complete the classic shooting experience. Beneath the vintage exterior lies the modern heart of the Nikon Z50, featuring a 20.9-megapixel APS-C sensor, blazing-fast eye-detection autofocus, and uncropped 4K video capabilities.

Why You'll Love This Camera

  • Tactile Mechanical Controls: The joy of the Z fc is in the shooting experience. Dedicated, machined aluminum dials on top of the camera give you instant physical control over ISO, shutter speed, and exposure compensation. There is even a tiny digital display window to show your current aperture.

  • 20.9MP DX-Format Sensor: The large APS-C sensor gathers significantly more light than a smartphone, producing imagery with low noise, beautiful background blur, and excellent dynamic range. It boasts a useful sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200.

  • Fast, Reliable Autofocus: Nikon's hybrid autofocus system includes highly effective Eye-Detection AF for both humans and animals (dogs and cats), ensuring your subject is always tack-sharp, whether you are shooting stills or recording video.

  • Vlogger-Friendly Screen: It is the first Nikon Z-series camera to feature a fully articulating 3.0-inch vari-angle touchscreen. It flips entirely forward for easy selfie framing and vlogging, and can be closed completely facing inward to protect the screen and complete the vintage film-camera look.

  • Uncropped 4K Video: The Z fc records crisp 4K UHD video up to 30p utilizing the full width of the sensor (no crop), as well as Full HD up to 120p for epic slow-motion playback.

  • Webcam Ready: You can plug the Z fc directly into your computer via USB-C and use it as a high-end webcam for live streaming or web conferencing with the free Nikon Webcam Utility software.

Things to Note

While the Z fc is a joy to hold, the retro design means it does not have a deep, pronounced handgrip like the closely related Nikon Z50. If you are attaching larger, heavier lenses (like a telephoto zoom), the camera can feel front-heavy and difficult to hold comfortably with one hand. Nikon does sell an optional extension grip (GR-1) that adds a bit more to hold onto.

Additionally, the camera body itself does not have In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS). If you are using lenses without built-in Vibration Reduction (VR)—which is common if you are adapting vintage glass—you will need to keep your shutter speeds relatively fast to avoid camera shake. Finally, the battery life is relatively modest (CIPA rated for about 300 shots), so you will likely want a spare for a full day of shooting.
