Profoto White Softlight Beauty Dish Reflector (20.5")

The Industry Standard for Fashion and Beauty Portraits

When you look at high-end fashion magazines or cosmetic campaigns, the signature crisp-yet-creamy light wrapping around the model's face is almost always the work of a beauty dish. The Profoto 20.5" White Softlight Reflector is arguably the most famous and widely used version of this modifier in the commercial photography world.

By utilizing a central deflector to bounce the flash output back into the large metal bowl, it creates a unique light source that sits perfectly between the hard, directional punch of a bare reflector and the soft, forgiving wrap of a softbox. It is specifically designed to enhance bone structure, illuminate makeup details, and create stunning, round catchlights in your subject's eyes.

This product was used as a dealer demo, with open box, and priced accordingly.

Why You'll Love This Modifier

  • The Classic Beauty Light: The unique "doughnut" pattern of light created by the central deflector eliminates the harsh hot spot in the center of the flash. This wraps perfectly around the contours of the face, sculpting cheekbones and jawlines with beautiful, dramatic contrast.

  • White vs. Silver Interior: Profoto offers this dish in both silver and white. This white version delivers a slightly softer, creamier, and more even light than the silver model. It is significantly more forgiving on skin textures and blemishes, making it the go-to choice for portraiture and cosmetic work.

  • Fast, Integrated Mounting: Unlike softboxes that require you to fiddle with rods and separate speedrings, this dish features Profoto's classic, heavy-duty rubber collar built directly into the back. You simply slide it onto the flash head and lock it down in seconds.

  • Incredible Versatility: While it creates beautiful light on its own, you can drastically change its character with optional accessories. Add the optional glass deflector for a warmer tone, stretch a diffuser "sock" over the front to turn it into a round softbox, or snap on a 25-degree honeycomb grid for incredibly moody, directional light.

Things to Note

Because this is a traditional studio light shaper made of solid spun metal, it does not fold down or collapse like an umbrella or a softbox. Taking it on location can be cumbersome, as it requires careful packing in a dedicated padded carrying case (often sold separately) to prevent the metal from denting during transport.

Additionally, while it uses the universal Profoto mount and will perfectly fit on smaller battery-powered strobes like the B10 or B10X Plus, it is relatively heavy (2.7 lbs). Ensure you are using a sturdy C-stand with a sandbag, especially if you plan to boom the light over your subject's head for the classic "clamshell" beauty lighting setup.
