Because it drops to f/6.3 at the 600mm end, you will need bright daylight to keep your shutter speeds fast enough to freeze action, or you will need to rely heavily on your camera's high-ISO capabilities when shooting under a dense forest canopy or at dusk.

Secondly, because the lens zooms internally, it is physically long 100% of the time. Measuring over 12.5 inches in length, it requires a dedicated, deep camera bag or a specialized telephoto backpack for transport. It will not fit upright in a standard, everyday messenger-style camera bag.

Finally, while the front element does not protrude, it is massive and requires huge 95mm screw-on front filters.
